Leaders=Ethics

It does really matter if a leader is ethical or not. Being ethical show what type of leader and person you are. If you are an unethical leader then you are an unethical person. You can't be an ethical leader and be an unethical person. It just doesn't work like that. If other group members see that the leader is unethical they will want to leave the group. The biggest scandal right now is the Tiger Woods scandal. He was a leader to all minorities who wanted to go for their dream. After what was revealed, his carree went down the drain. He now refred to as a scumbag and how he doesn't deserve a second chance. So from that one unthical move, it ruined his carree and lost all his fans. He was a leader and now he is nothing. Another person who made an ethical choice for the better was Maggie Brooks. She had a dilemma whether or not to go to the police and report the Robutrad scandal or just keep it internally and deal with it amongst themselves. She decided to go to the police and charge them with criminal offenses. After the Robutrad scandal, people took new poll of Maggie Brooks' ethical rating and it is higher then it has been in years due to the way she handled the scandal. This is why being ethical is so important in being a leader. The moment someone does something unethical they lose all trust and whent ehy do something extremly ethical they gain a ton of trust. being ethical is one of the most important quality in being a leader.

Leadership: what does it really mean?

Many people believe that leadership is to make a change. I use to believe to be a leader you have to be a successful person. My views on leadership have done a complete 180. I now see that anyone can be a leader and they don’t necessarily be successful, they just have to be determine and work towards a common goal together. The definition of leadership is that leadership is a relational process of people working together to accomplish change or to make a difference that will benefit the common good. I only partly agree with that definition because I feel that you don’t have to make a difference to be a leader you just have try your hardest and make an effort towards making a difference.
All people should study leadership. They should because people use it in everyday situations. I know in the jobs I want to pursue after college all have to have leaders in the highest positions. I would like to go into political science and business (especially human resources) and I would definitely have to be a leader. If I did go into politics leadership is an important quality for it because people wouldn’t support me if I couldn’t prove to be an effective leader. I would need to study leadership for business because if I wanted to be a business leader people would have to have the other people I work with be willing to be followers under me. Leadership is even good to have in your own household because if you don’t act like a leader some people will just walk all over you and expect too much from you.
I hope to learn how to be a leader in group of peers. Sometimes I am afraid to speak up in a large group of people because I don’t want people to think of what I say as a stupid comment or something that don’t make sense. I would not want people to make fun or judge me based on what I said. I really would love to gain more confidence and support what I say with the great ideas to back it up. Leadership is major part to be a successful person later in life, in your job and in your community. With a leader you can make changes and differences you believe in while having a positive say in what you are doing.

Initiative #2--THE INVISIBLE MAZE

I loved this initiative. I felt so happy at the end when we finished them. This was much more successful than the human knot. I did the invisible maze before in freshman year with m gym class and it took us forever to accomplish it. We worked together so well. The no talking part of the first one made it a little more difficult but we got through it. I was very mush an active participant in figuring out the maze. There was a group of about ten of us who worked together to figure out the maze. The others just stood around and watched. It was much easier looking at the puzzle from the outside in. I liked telling people where they should try moving to rather then being inside the maze and having people tell me where to move. I did not rely on anybody for help while making my way through the maze because since I was paying attention I had memorized the maze. The group was able to accomplish this task very well because we accomplished the maze twice in the time allotted. The difference between the non talking maze and the talking maze is that even though we couldn't talk, we did better in the non talking one because people weren't yelling out where they wanted you to move you could make the choice yourself. But there wasn't a huge difference between the 2 mazes (talking vs. not talking). I very much enjoyed this activity because we worked together very well and we made it through the maze twice.

Day 5--Spectator and/or Active Participant

I am usually always a spectator. I rarely speak up and input my ideas and thoughts. I wish I would have stepped up and given ideas and was ready to help the people in my group. I have just joined a club at Penfield and I offered to step up and be co-leader with my best friend. I now very much enjoy being an active participant in the group and make choices and decisions with my friend and the group. I was motivated to become an active participant because this was a club I was very much interested in and I really wanted to be a part of it. I am so happy I decided to be a part of the club because I feel like I have a voice in this group and that I can say what i want to say and make a difference.

Day 1-- Opening Thoughts

1. Three people that are considered to be effective leaders are Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, and my mother. MLK Jr. is an effective leader because he had a huge following by just speaking his thoughts and wanting to make a difference. He believed he could change the country and people saw that in him so that's why they followed him. Gandhi is a great leader because he gave the Indians freedom from British control without using aggression and weapons. People followed him because he spoke about what the people thought. My mother is an effective leader because she is the has one of the highest jobs in the county and people look up to her because she is a very successful woman in the county and she did it all by herself with no help and I look up to her

2.Some personal characteristics that these leaders posses that i would like to have in myself are strong, independent and brave.

3. To me leadership means being able to take the initiative and make a change. To be a leader people have to be able to listen to what you have to say and changing something you believe in.

4.Seriously, I only took this course for credit. But I do feel like we can really help a cause and make a difference and make people aware of what goes on outside of the walls of Penfield High School. I hope to gain the characteristics of being a great leader because when I get older and get a job I will need to posses those qualities so if i get them earlier in life it will help me in the long run.

5.Today in the initiative I feel that I didn't contribute at all because I didn't put in ideas or try to help. Jake was taking over and being a great leader. I felt that it wouldn't help with more people talking and trying to figure out what to do. Many people did nothing the entire time, so i do feel like I helped more than they did. I am mostly a follower but I can be a leader if I have to be put into that situation. I can be a really effective leader if I need to be one. I think in the future I will voice my opinions and what i think more often instead of just keeping it to myself.
